The Benefits Of A Bucket List

By Charlene Vereen on June 18, 2017

Everyday as we continue to grow into ourselves and our lifestyles, we may tend to pass by or postpone a few things that we’d like to experience for ourselves. Creating a bucket list is a unique and creative way of venturing out and learning your inner self. It’s pursuing your own ideas and taking your own path in life regardless of whether someone wants to come with you or not. They are more like eternal promises. Almost anything can pretty much be on your bucket list; some of your items may be related to your career, for example, such as earning a certain amount of money in a year or reaching a desired level in a business. Maybe you want to build your own company or manufacture and sell your crafty well thought out invention that will change the world. Or perhaps you may want to travel the world and meet your soulmate, and buy your dream house or car. Making a bucket list even if it’s not realistic to visit all the places on the list — invokes a sense of hope, gives people something to look forward to, and even inspires them to get into better shape. It allows us to think outside of the box and get away from our routines to look at what we want to do, be or have, which is exciting and challenging.

Benefit #1:It’s Motivating

Having a bucket list gives you some kind of meaning in life, it reminds you of all the places you want to go and all things you want to do. More than likely, it pushes you to pursue these goals no matter what you may experienced in your lifetime. When you do the same thing day in and day out, life can get old. You start to just go through the motions where you aren’t really living; it’s more like you’re just surviving, and after while it becomes boring and routine. But, when you have a list in front of you of all the things you want to do between now and the day you die (which is hopefully a long way down the road), it can help motivate you to get those things done. It creates an excitement deep in your soul. It grabs the passion you thought you’d lost and brings it back to the surface with renewed vigor.

Benefit #2: It Makes You Feel Accomplished

Being able to jot down all the things that you’d like to do in your lifetime and then pursuing one can bring about a great feeling of achievement. You start to feel like you can do anything in the world, as you should and then the list gets longer. There is no better feeling than being able to cross an item off your bucket list and mark it as complete. It shows that you followed through with something from start to finish and that always feels good! That’s the whole point of creating a list, right? So you can check items off, cross them out, date them and move on to the next one? Creating a bucket list has so many advantages that, although it seems like a silly notion to do it, it really is silly not to.

Benefit #3: It Boosts Your Sense of Creativity

Nothing in this world is impossible, you can do anything you put your mind too. In the creation of your bucket list, never should you feel like you have to limit yourself, no matter what it is. Somethings may not take as long to happen as you would think, so with that being said, jot down all of your wishes and dreams no matter how far the destination or the situation. It can be something as simple as a bonfire on the beach watching the sun rise, or parasailing across one of the biggest oceans in the world. The point of the bucket list is to inspire you and drive you to achieve your dream goals.

Benefit #4: It Brings Awareness

Brainstorming any and all ideas for your bucket list will illuminate your values. It allows you to become more aware of the things that you want out of your life. When you see the types of activities or events that are coming up, you may notice a few common threads running through some of them. As you reflect on your goals and compare it to how you live your day-to-day life, you may also discover some discrepancy. You can use this awareness to alter your actions accordingly with your values and goals in mind.

Benefit #5: Makes You More Interesting

If you’re someone who aspires to travel the world and conquers any and every thing you put your mind too, then you’re already one up on anyone else who isn’t! Creating a bucket list sort of shows other people that there is this adventurous side of you. There is a part of you that wants to get lost in the world. It shows your ambitiousness, and what you have to offer. With a bucket list you will have personal stories from around the world and extraordinary things you have done to contribute to the conversation, which will make you that much more interesting!
